Amazon has introduced its telehealth platform, Amazon Clinic in India, allowing users across the geos to book e-consultation with licensed healthcare professionals for a host of over 50 health conditions. This offering is designed to enhance the accessibility and affordability of health care services through the Amazon app for both Android and iOS devices.

Amazon Clinic in India

Amazon Clinic is now available for use after beta testing in the first part of this year, and all customers in India can use it. This system however allows using a wide array of medical services including on demand and scheduled virtual consultations and offers services in various fields such as dermatology, gynecology, pediatrics, nutrition, psychiatry, and others. The consultation fees range from INR 299 above based on the medical specialty. The durations of each consultation range between 10 to 30 minutes, in addition to which, the users also enjoy seven days free follow up support by the healthcare providers after a given consultation.

In a bid to make the user journey less complicated, Amazon Clinic features an in-app pharmacy network that helps patients order their medicines via Amazon’s existing online pharmacy. Such a feature increases user comfort by allowing users to complete both the consultation and the medicine within the same process.

The service is primarily intended for non-emergency care and mainly targets small health issues, medical queries, follow-ups, and other such problems, providing a convenient and safe option for the patients to cater for their health issues. All health information is de-identified and stored securely without any leak of the details to any third parties. In addition, Amazon took care of the quality of the medical services given and put a condition that anyone who joins this initiative ought to have three years’ experience in providing telemedicine services.

This launch is part of a more complex strategy on the part of the e-commerce giant in its aspiration to enhance the health services. It comes after the organization’s announcement concerning the purchase of One Medical for $3.9 bln for the purposes of enhancing the availability of health services offered by the organization in Asia and outside the continent. In the US, even before the launch of Amazon Clinic, Amazon extended One Medical primary care services to all users, which facilitated care delivery to them.

With Amazon Clinic, Amazon continues to work towards ensuring that less expensive and greater access to healthcare exists, seeking to improve the experience of patients in India through digital access to healthcare content.
