Ayushman Bharat health cards to be accessible through Google Wallet from 2025

From 2025, Ayushman Bharat health cards will be available in Google Wallet and India will get a tremendous breakthrough in the health accessibility field as Google has announced its plans to include Ayushman Bharat health ID cards on Google Wallet from 2025. Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is circulated by Government of India and is being implemented by the National Health Authority.

In a blog post recently, Google stated: “As part of this commitment, we’re proud to support the ABDM. Our health research team has collaborated with the National Health Authority, providing thought leadership that has helped in the development of tools for more seamless integration with the ABDM digital architecture. This collaboration could thus significantly reduce app integrations from a range of six months to under two weeks.”

This integration will allow Ayushman Bharat Health Account ID card holders to store, share, and access their digital health information efficiently with all healthcare service providers across the country. The same will be implemented in partnership with Eka Care. For adding or accessing the ABHA ID on Google Wallet, the user will have to authenticate his/her device through a fingerprint, PIN, or passcode.

This would allow more than 600 million users to access their health information-including lab reports and prescriptions-along with other administrative requirements in a less hassle-prone manner, thus enhancing their ability to make more effective use of India’s public health infrastructure, said Google.

Under AB PM-JAY, cashless access to healthcare services will be available at the point of service, which would be a hospital in general. This will include all pre-existing conditions from day one, meaning that nothing would be a barrier in way of treatment for beneficiaries. Most importantly, scheme benefits are portable across India. That means, the person can take along their cashless treatment with them if they visit an empaneled public or private hospital anywhere in the country.

Free health insurance coverage, up to Rs 5 lakh in a year, will be given to citizens above 70 years of age. The restrictions of limitations on their income will not apply here. Various healthcare services will be free and a specific card will be issued under this plan. Google and India’s partnership hence is a giant leap toward more accessible and managed care for millions and toward developing more robust digital health infrastructure for the country.
