Could this Blend of Jaggery, Chickpeas, and Sesame Seeds be Deemed the Ultimate “Superfood” for Health?

Sesame Seeds

According to Dt. Priyanka Khandelwal, founder of Diet Planet, Gur, Chana, and Sesame seeds serve as an excellent snack or alternative when craving something sweet. In the realm of nutrition, certain food combinations are acclaimed for their synergistic blend of taste and health benefits. One such potent trio gaining recognition is the amalgamation of Gur (jaggery), Chana (chickpeas), and Sesame seeds. Nutritionist Leema Mahajan took to Instagram, asserting it as the “healthiest superfood combo,” sharing a quick recipe incorporating these three ingredients. However, is this combination as nutritious as claimed? We consulted experts to delve into the matter.

  1. Gur presents a healthier alternative to sugar due to its abundance of iron, antioxidants, and essential minerals such as magnesium and potassium. It aids in digestion and boosts energy levels.
  2. Chana boasts high protein and fiber content, along with vital nutrients like folate and zinc, facilitating muscle development, stabilizing blood sugar levels, and bolstering heart health.
  3. Sesame seeds are abundant in beneficial fats, protein, and antioxidants, fostering bone strength, alleviating inflammation, and nurturing skin and hair health.

Parveen suggests that the combined consumption of these ingredients offers a well-rounded blend of carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats, thus serving as an optimal option for individuals seeking sustained energy, balanced blood sugar levels, and overall well-being.

However, the nutritionist cautioned that certain individuals should refrain from consuming these ingredients. “Gur contains high levels of sugar, making it unsuitable for individuals with diabetes or those aiming to regulate blood sugar levels. Chana, being a legume, may cause digestive issues for some, particularly individuals with irritable bowel syndrome or other digestive disorders. Moreover, sesame seeds, rich in oxalates, could potentially contribute to the development of kidney stones in certain individuals. Hence, individuals with a history of kidney stones should restrict their intake of sesame seeds,” Parveen advised.
