The Indian Army, in coordination with District Medical Authorities, conducted medical camps in the villages of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts, Manipur, on November 29 and 30, 2024. These camps were intended to provide essential health services to the local population, and more than 813 people benefited from the camps during the two-day event.
The medical camps were assisted by the district hospitals. It consisted of a full-time team of medical doctors, that is, Army doctors along with female doctors, one gynecologist, and facilities for blood testing, etc. People of all ages received proper health checks and the necessary medicines which catered to a complete range of healthcare needs. The camps were strategically held in the T Kananphai village in Siden (Churachandpur) on November 29, and at the Community Hall Saiton Bazaar (Bishnupur) on November 30.
These efforts are part of the Indian Army’s long-standing support for the betterment of local communities, particularly those areas that are in health-challenged zones. This continued presence by the Army in these regions seeks to bring timely and efficient health services to the people and will lead to the development of healthier, safer communities.
Following on from a series of such initiatives by the Assam Rifles, which earlier organized Mega Medical Camps in multiple districts of Manipur as a response to ongoing issues stemming from conflict, displacement and a fragile healthcare delivery mechanism within the state. This reached around 6,750 people in the three camps of Assam Rifles over three days, which went beyond just medical aid and brought hope and security to distressed people. The Assam Rifles also worked in coordination with 19 specialist doctors from Maharashtra and Karnataka, along with the Indian Medical Association, to provide much-needed care to vulnerable populations.
Both the Army and Assam Rifles’ medical initiatives show the commitment of the Indian Armed Forces towards community welfare, addressing immediate healthcare needs, and fostering a spirit of cooperation and care during times of crisis. Such efforts are crucial in pointing out the role the armed forces play in improving public health and ensuring stability in regions facing significant challenges.
