The second edition of “Janata ke saath-PGI ka haath” was hosted by the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at PGIMER on Saturday. This initiative aims to offer a unified platform for the general public, patients, and caregivers to address issues concerning diabetes, its prevention, and associated complications.
The event saw the participation of 200 individuals, comprising patients, endocrinologists, nephrologists, ophthalmologists, transplant surgeons, nursing professionals, and members of the general public.
The event comprised discussions on various aspects of diabetes, covering topics such as gestational diabetes, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic hepatopathy, prevention of diabetic foot complications, causes and treatment of hypoglycemia, proper insulin injection technique, and essential laboratory investigations for diabetic patients.
During the opening speech, Dr. Vivek Lal, the Director of PGI, underscored the significance of exercise in promoting healthy lifestyles and preventing diabetes, emphasizing that “Exercise is medicine.”
Furthermore, the program included a panel discussion featuring experts in nephrology, ophthalmology, and bone health specialists from Henry Ford Hospital, USA. Speaker D. Sudhaker Rao shared insights on maintaining bone health and managing diabetes.
Dr. Sanjay Bhadada from the Department of Endocrinology delivered informative sessions on diabetic care.
